Katherine Needleman

Principal Oboist

American

Is principal oboist of The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra since 2003, the same year she won first prize at the International Double Reed Society’s Gillet-Fox Competition. She has made solo appearances with The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and The Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra, among many others. She has also appeared as guest principal oboist with The New York Philharmonic, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the symphony orchestras of Boston, Atlanta, San Diego, and New Zealand.  Formerly, she was principal oboist of The Richmond Symphony and The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Ms. Needleman is a founding member of the oboe trio, Trio La Milpa.  As a chamber musician she has performed in Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, and The Metropolitan Museum, among others. She has appeared at  Italy’s Spoleto Festival, The Alpenglow Festival, The Newport Music Festival, and frequently participates in The Marlboro Music Festival  Ms. Needleman received a Bachelor of Music Degree from The Curtis Institute of Music. She is a Yamaha Performing Artist and a member of the faculty at The Peabody Conservatory.
