Judith Sugarman

Bassist

born in the United States.

Active in the world of commercial music, Ms Sugarman’s playing can be heard on such films as Kramer vs. Kramer, Sphere, You’ve Got Mail, among many others. She has recorded hundreds of TV and radio commercials and can be heard on CDs and music videos with such artists as varied as The Three Tenors, Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Elton John, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, and P Diddy. Past season’s highlights includes a performance for President and Mrs. Clinton at the White House. Judith served on the faculty of the Juilliard School from 1999 through 2006, and is presently on the faculty of Mannes Prep. Ms Sugarman was the bassist for the Steven Sondheim musical Passion as well as in the Broadway production of Leonard Bernstein’s Candide. Last spring she was the bassist for the London production of Coram Boy. Judith Sugarman’s chamber music activities have included performances with the Guarneri String Quartet, members of the New York Philharmonic, the Sylvan Winds and Simon Estes and Solisti New York.

She studied as a scholarship student of Homer Mensch at the Juilliard School in both the pre-college and college divisions. She holds the position of principal bass for the Little Orchestra Society, The EOS Orchestra, Amici New York, Concordia, The Stamford Symphony and the Philharmonic Orchestra of New Jersey. Additionally, she frequently performs as acting principal bass with The Brooklyn Philharmonic, The Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, and the American Composers Orchestra.
